A study of reading habits poem analysis
The poem depicts an introverted man, who enjoys reading on his off time, to escape reality. While the first stanza shows that he sees himself as the hero of the story, the second stanza shows transitions his perspective in believing that he is the villain of this story. The poem end with the reader jumping to the conclusion that he no longer sees himself as the hero, or the villain, but a side character who has no connection to the plot, or relevance to the story. Over all the lesson of the poem is to stay in touch with reality, and to not get lost in fantasy. Since the character soon realizes he is going nowhere through reading, and he probably does not have anyone to spend time with, reading helps him come to the realization that he is lonely.
When getting my nose in a book
Cured most things short of school,
It was worth ruining my eyes
To know I could still keep cool,
And deal out the old right hook
To dirty dogs twice my size.
Later, with inch-thick specs,
Evil was just my lark:
Me and my cloak and fangs
Had ripping times in the dark.
The women I clubbed with sex!
I broke them up like meringues.
Don't read much now: the dude
Who lets the girl down before
The hero arrives, the chap
Who's yellow and keeps the storeSeem far too familiar. Get stewed:
Books are a load of crap.
